Summary:
Macon
Leary and Sarah Leary are husband and wife. One day, they decided to divorce due
to a quarrel. In the quarrel, they mention that their son, Ethan, is dead of a
murder. Because of this plus Macon didn’t seem to be concern about it, this
time Sarah made that decision. At first, Macon felt annoyed about it, and often
missed her. For Macon lived of himself, his relatives, Rose, Charles and Porter
came to his house for helping his daily routines. All of them have a common-they
were all cold people like Macon. After a period of time, Macon had almost
forgot her because of a vet, Muriel Pritchett. This began with Macon’s dog, Edward.
Since Edward is ferocious and sometimes bite people for no reasons, Macon
decided to hire a vet to translate it. At the start, it seemed very usual to
Muriel to come to Macon’s house, but little by little, Macon is falling in. He
started to enter Muriel’s life, and knew that she had been divorced once too
and had a son called Alexander Pritchett. During this time, Macon walked out from
the pain of a broken marriage and felt happy for living with them, and even promised
that he would bring her to France if he is going to white the series of that.
But Macon still hoped that Sarah would come back at heart. Meanwhile, Macon’s
older sister, Rose, got married with Macon’s boss, Julian Edge, who was very
concerned with her since he saw her at the first sight. In their wedding
ceremony, the things got a material change- Sarah wanted to back to him. Macon
of course said OK, and cut with Muriel at once on the surface. Yet, the plan
can’t catch up with the change- Julian asked Macon to write the France series.
And it never occurred to him that he would met Muriel at the airport. Macon
asked why she’s here, she just said” we met on purpose”. During the term of
trip, Muriel always wanted to be with but got rejected. On the last morning in
France, Macon had a sudden serious back pain, and he called Sarah for help.
Surprisingly, Sarah appeared on the next day. Sarah took care of him
meticulously, and she also told him she saw his “friend”, Muriel. Macon explained
immediately. But in the end, Macon thanked for the cure of his back pain, and
head for Muriel.
Reflection:
I think that Macon isn’t a good man. Though his marriage was in danger,
he didn’t show a good will to get her back, he just wait. And I hate Macon’s
personality of irresolute and hesitant-didn’t he know he would hurt two of
them? Also, his family members were very weird, too. They were same as Macon,
cold and just follow the rules, expect his sister, Rose. I also think Sarah is
a very good person. Who can forgive a man has another girl outside and let him
to find her in the end! If I were her, I wouldn’t forgive him and order him not
to find her strictly. Thus, I considered that Macon didn’t cherish such a good
wife, but willing to be with a young girl- not also me but also his family
member knows that Muriel doesn’t fit him. But obviously Macon didn’t know that.
In my opinion, I have an idea that the ending is the worst part of the story. Expect
my forward to the ending, how could the author write such a have-nothing-to-reply
ending? I think she must don’t know that many plots of the story are so boring
that really make me sleepy?? To sum up, I’m under the impression that it’s hard
to finish the whole book without yawning.
I hated Macon too. (I thought many people did not like him )
