Magic Dreamers-from Magic Dreamer’s school

Setting: Magic Dreamers’ school in 2013 ~

Characters: Three Students from Magic Dreamers’ High School (MDHS) and Confucius, the Statue on MDHS campus.

Joe, a boy who is eager for a romantic love likes to selfie on his smartphone listening to music all the time.

Church, a boy who is indecisive and insecure always takes an English pocket book with him.

Jasmine, a girl who is outgoing and boyish likes to fancy and does everything by intuition.

Confucius, the Magic Statue standing inside the inner gate, likes to help dreamers.

The old couple, they were died from drinking the water in the river.

Joe, Church, and Jasmine are studying in class 520, Magic Dreamers’ school. They have become good friends after working together on a geography report. During the ten-minute breaks, they always get together. Sometimes they chat in the classroom or on the hallway; sometimes they walk around the campus, go to the tuck shop, or even to the toilet.

One day, after English class, Jasmine shouted loudly at Joe and Church, “Let’s go!”  “Where?” Joe asked without moving his eyes away from his phone. “Let’s walk around, shooting the breeze, since there are no more quizzes today.”  “O. K. Let’s go, Church.” Church took his English pocket book, walking behind them.

They passed through the inner gate to walk around the sports field. While walking, Jasmine looked up at the sky, fancying that she was walking in the sky. “Wow, look at that cloud, looking like a castle.  How I wish I could live in a castle as a princess does!” Both Joe and Church raised their heads, looking up and wondering where the castle is! “Did you watch too many cartoons, or too many Korean TV programs?” Church replied to her while Joe was shaking his head. “It’s so cold. I’m a little hungry. “I would like to buy some snacks in the tuck shop,” Joe said. Jasmine said she would like to take a longer walk. Church hesitated whether he should go with Joe or Jasmine.  Jasmine said, “You two go first. I’m coming soon.”

After a while, Jasmine walked through the inner gate, going toward the classroom. Suddenly, she felt like there was somebody behind, gazing at her. She turned back quickly. But there was none. “Am I dizzy today? I don’t have any fever today,” she said, feeling her forehead by her right hand.  She walked on.  However, she still felt somebody monitoring her from behind.  “What’s wrong with me today?  It is almost time for Chinese Class. I have to hurry up.” She couldn't wait to tell her friends such feelings but she had to wait until the Chinese Class ended.

Finally the bell rang. She ran to Joe and Church to tell what had happened to her. At first, they didn’t think there was anybody that got interested in her. “Don’t worry. Our school is safe. We will protect you.”   Jasmine was still wondering why she got that feeling, so she decided to walk again on the same path they walked during last break time. Church and Joe had no choice but to go with her. Once again, as soon as they went through the inner gate, going toward the classroom, Jasmine got that feeling again. All of them turned around, but nobody looked at her. They walked on again. After a moment, Jasmine felt piercing eyes gazing at her back again. However, Joe and Church felt nothing at all. “Maybe you are too tired. You stayed up so late last night.” the boys said. “But I stayed up almost every day from Monday to Friday. I didn't have such a feeling before,” Jasmine answered. While they were talking, Jasmine faced the statue Confucius. All of a sudden, she motioned the two boys to turn back. There was a sparkle the Confucius’s eyes. “Let’s go take a look at it.” When they got closer to it, the sparkle in the eyes disappeared.  All of them rubbed their eyes.  The Confucius was still the same –standing straight, looking forward, making a bow with clasped hands held at breast level, with a sword clasped by his waist band. “Illusions!” Church said. “No” Jasmine said. “I want to see what on earth happened to the statue.” “Let’s walk around the statue to explore it.”“萬世師表”“學不厭” “教不倦”, these words inscribed respectively on the front, right, and left sides of the base are still the same. The dormitory behind Confucius Statue has nothing different.” Church repeated the words again, and Joe did so, too. 

But nothing happened. “That’s so boring. I want to go back to classroom.” said Joe, thinking Jasmine is cheating them. “Uh-If you find out anything, you can tell us any time, Jasmine.” said Church, then took out his English book from his pocket. “Ok, guys.” said Jasmine hopelessly. All of them lived in dormitory. After the class, Jasmine decided to take a shower to relax a while. “I really felt there was someone looking at me.” Jasmine thought confusedly. She still wanted to know what happened exactly. ” Jasmine, do you want to sleep now? It’s 12 o'clock at midnight.” her roommate asked her. Later, she decided to go to sleep. Jasmine tossed and turned in her bed for a long time. She still could not put that thing down. “I must see that statue again.” Jasmine thought, sitting up in her bed. Then, she tiptoed quietly in order not to be found by others. She opened the door and ran as fast as a wind. When Jasmine came to the ground, she found out that the statue was gone. “What? That’s impossible. Where’s it?” Joseph said shocked. It was hard to receive the truth. ”Oh! Why there’re so many rocks on the road? Maybe these are points.” thought Jasmine. She decided to follow the rocks. Then, she came to the playground. Jasmine saw the shadow of a person running.” Who want to go jogging in the midnight?” she thought strangely, wanted to find out the answer. So, she went closer to see it. “OH MY GOD! It’s the statue. W-Why can it run?” She felt scary and ran as fast as she could.

The next day, Jasmine told the two boys about what she saw at playground last midnight. “That’s your illusion.” Church said again, didn't want to believe her. “Really? Didn’t you make a mistake?” doubted Joe. Neither of them believed what she said. ”Maybe we can see the statue together at 12 o’clock tonight.” said Jasmine with confidence. After they ate dinner, the sun had already set, the sky turned darker, and the atmosphere around the ground, where the statue was, became a little bit scaring. It was about 12 o'clock at midnight that three of them came out from the dormitory secretly, wanted to see if Jasmine is telling the truth. When they got to the ground, the statue disappeared again, and then they headed for the playground. “OH MY GOD! How come it happened? I can’t believe my eyes!” the two boys shouted at the same time and ran away as fast as a train. Jasmine wanted to tell more people about the statue, but she was too scared to get closer. “What can I do? How can I collect more evidence to make other people believe me?” Jasmine asked herself nervously. Later, the idea came up her mind. “Maybe I can take picture with it by myself.” thought Jasmine as she took out her camera.When the statue was far behind her, she pushed the camera shutter, then she looked at the photo in her camera, the statue in the photo was right beside her. Jasmine shocked a lot.

As she wanted to run away, she heard a voice came behind her. “Would you like to run with me?” said the statue sincerely. “Um…but...!” said Jasmine with a little bit nervous. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you, I just want to find someone who can be my friend." "O...K!" answered Jasmine, still felt scared. Later, they had good chat with each other, and then they became good friend. “What are you doing these few days? You always looked tired and often nodded off during the class.” the two boys asked curiously. “I go to the playground to chat with the statue every night, we become good friend now!” answered Jasmine, yawning. “What? You chat with that statue every night? Are you kidding?” the two boys didn’t believe again. “I can introduce both of you to the statue tonight.” said Jasmine kindly. At about 12 o’clock, they went to playground together. The statue was running there. “Hi! I want to introduce two of my friend to you, Church and Joe. We can chat together tonight!” said Jasmine happily. After they chatted for a while, four of them became good friends, Church and Joe were not afraid of the statue since that night.

One night, when they wanted to chat with the statue at the playground, they saw it was lying on the ground instead of running. “What’s going on?” three of them went to see what happened to the statue as soon as possible. ”Oh, No! How can we help him?” said Jasmine sadly. “Look! There’s something creeping on the ground!” Church said, shocked. Then, Joe and Jasmine turned back and looked at it carefully. The thing creeping on the ground looked like a bug; it has eight feet and a hard body, just like a machine. “Maybe we should follow it so as to find something secretly.” said Jasmine seriously, hoping it could help the statue. “OK, let’s do it!” said Joe confidently. “Count me in, guys.” Jasmine said. Then, they followed the small mechanic bug to see where it was going. They passed the school’s playground, the street in front of the dormitory, and the mountain behind the school. ”It looks so scary, I even can’t see clearly now! I want to go back to school.” said Church trembling. “Come on! We have to help the statue. He is our friend, isn’t he?” said Jasmine. “OK…I will continue to go forward!” sighed Church. They kept walking and walking. It was a long journey. “I was so thirsty, guys. Can we just take a short break here? Look! There was a river. Thank God.” Joe said surprised and ran as fast as he could in order to get some water from the river. “Hurry up, Joe. Time waits for no men.” Jasmine shouted with her hands putting on her waist.

After they walk a while, they saw a bright yellow light. They finally arrived at the factory. The mechanic bug was still creeping on the ground. They were closer and closer to the factory. When they were close enough to see what the factory was like clearly, they found that the factory was made of iron. It was just like a big castle. The bug crept into the factory. “What about now?” asked Church unsurely. “Just go and ask the guard over there.” Joe said unconcernedly. The man who stood beneath the yellow light look a little scared. He looked like a robot. A robot did have any emotion. “No way! Are you silly? Why do you think he will help us? We cannot trust anyone here completely. It is too dangerous.” said Jasmine wisely. “Ok. Listen to you. All women’s feelings were very accurate. ” said Joe, obeyedly. Then, they decided to tiptoe to the other side of the building to find another safer way to enter it. Soon, Church found that there was a gate in front of them. “We got it. Let us go.” Church said, then head forward there surely. Three of them looked around cautiously to avoid finding by others. Slowly and silently. Behind the gate was a long alley. None of them could see the end of the road. Just like a big black mouth waited for the ignorant people came and then it could swallow them. No way could turn back. Joe took a deep breath and said bravely. “Do not be afraid. It is a common road. Nothing is special. Remember the statue. He is still waiting for us.”  “ Yes! We are ready.” said Jasmine and Church.

Boom--bung—doom--. Crush—bang—dang--. “Did you hear that? It sounds like big metals were crushed together. There! Follow the sounds!” said Jasmine decisively. Both of the boys followed Jasmine’s footsteps. After walking for a while, they saw a room in the end of the alley, “Where is that?” three of them get closer to see what is in the room with their heart beating quickly. “OH MY GOD! W…What is that? Why does the factory need to do that?” Church said with his sound trembling. They saw a machine that can produce robots. After a new robot has created, the machine will put a human’s face on it, so every robot produced in this factory is looked like human. ”Never mind, don’t be afraid, just remember why we are here in this strange factory.” said Jasmine optimistically. Finally, they followed the mechanic bug into the other room which is on the other side of the factory, in the room; there are many mechanic bugs like they have found on the statue which are just produce by an automatic machine. “These mechanic bugs are similar as the one that is on the statue, maybe we can take one back with us so that we can help the statue to resurrect.” Jasmine said happily. “Good idea, if the statue resurrect, it means we achieve our goal.” Joe said with a big smile. So, they decided to steal a new one and want to get out of this scary factory as fast as possible. When they were about to leave, “Stop! Who are you? What are you doing here?” the guard they saw at first asked. “Uh…nothing, we just… get lost around here in the forest, so…”Joe said with his sound trembling. “So what? You don’t need to say anything. Whatever you said, I don’t believe. What you need to do is to follow me, I’ll take three of you to meet my boss.” the guard said. “OK, you go first, we will follow you.” Jasmine answered and then she used her eyes to hint the boys to run away. “Hey, wait! Where are you going?” the guard shouted angrily. “Wow~ you are so smart, Jasmine.” Joe complimented. “Thanks!” Jasmine answered with her face blushed.

 On their way back to school, they walked through a mountain, the mountain is dark and a little bit scary, there are many horrible ghost stories about it are told in school. After a while of walking, they heard a sound of a baby’s crying. “What’s going on? I don’t want to meet the ghosts here!” Church said with a scared facial expression. “Where is the baby? Why is he crying so loudly?” Joe asked. They followed the sound to look for where it came from. No soon later, they saw an old house which is made of wood. The baby’s crying was still can be heard. “I think we should go and take a look at what’s going on.” said Jasmine, worrying. “No way! I do not want to go inside. What if there has something I do not want to see?” said Church, scared. “Do not be afraid, Church. I think we have to check it. What if someone needs our help? But it is ok if you do not want to come. You can stay here and wait for Jasmine and me.” said Joe, pretended that he is brave. Joe decided to go inside the house with Jasmine. They left Church alone. “Hey, wait! I do not want to leave here by myself. ” said Church as he tried to catch up Jasmine and Joe. They knocked the door three times. “Hello. Is anyone here? The baby is crying.” yield Jasmine. But no one answered. They knocked again and again and hoped there were someone could answer door. No matter how many times they tried, it was still the same. In the end, they decided to go inside without the permission. “How terrible this house is?” said Church, trying to be brave. “The baby’s crying is coming from the second floor. We have to go upstairs.” said Jasmine with a little bit scared.

 When the three people go up to the second floor, the sound of the baby’s crying stopped. The silence befall them. They have a feeling of the wind blowing through, three people feel even scared now. “The baby’s crying stops, so we can go back to school now, right?” asked Church with his sound trembling. “Yep, let’s go!” answered Joe. As they got to go, a sound of an old man asked them to go into the bedroom in the bottom of the dark alley. “What’s on earth happened in this house? Should we go there?” Joe thought doubtfully. “Let’s go and see what happen to the old man.” said Jasmine, wanted to help the elder. When the three people got into the bedroom, they saw an old couple sitting on the chair back toward them. “Excuse me, do you need any help?” asked Jasmine. “We want to talk to you. Could you please come and sit here?” said the old man, sincerely. “Do we really have to do?” whispered Joe. “Maybe we can get some information of the factory from them.” answered Jasmine. When they go to sit in front of the old couple, they feel a little bit strange. The old couple always used the carpet to cover their feet, Jasmine tried to find the answer about their feet. The old couple then took the carpet away from their feet. “Arghhhhhh!!!! Why don’t you have feet?” three of them screamed. “We had been killed last year. The old factory near here is always pouring some of the chemical wastes into the river, and after we drank, both of us were poisoned.” the old woman answered. Just hearing this, Joe’s facial expression turned into even scared, he thought that he would die soon. “Can you tell us more details about the factory? We want to know more.” asked Jasmine, trying her best to calm down. “Actually, we never get into there, so we really don’t know much about it, what we know is that the factory was a human biological laboratory at first, and now it is turned into an automatic factory which is producing robots day and night.” the old couple answered.

After they arrived at Magic Dreamer's School, they felt a sense of relief, except Joe, who was still thinking about he would die very soon. When the night came, three of them ran out of the dormitory secretly, they ran to the ground where the statue is, then they put the mechanic bug on it in order to make it revive. “Who are you?” asked the statue, but the sound was different from before, it’s now like a girl’s sound. And after a while, the statue took out of the mirror and looked itself into it. “How beautiful I am.” said the statue. “…How come it turn into this kind of personality?” thought three of the students. “Could you please help me one thing?” the statue asked. “Of course, you are our friend, so we will try our best to help you.” answered Jasmine, kindly. “I want to wear some beautiful clothes, could you please help me to buy? Don’t forget about the skirt, I like skirt the most!” said the statue, with it's hand putting on Jasmine's shoulder. “Uh…ok, but… are you sure?” asked Jasmine, checked if it really wants to wear skirt. “Yes, I am sure, thanks a lot!” answered the statue happily.

“Sorry, I do not feel good, guys. I th—think I’m going—” Joe said painfully. The last second, the strange thing happened. Joe turned into a robot, but he did not die. “Hello, I am 71253.” said Joe without consciousness. “Oh, no! Why does he turn into a robot? Is it because the water he had drunk was polluted? What can we do? The river will flow into the other rivers and seas. ” said Church alarmedly. “Calm down. I think we should try to tell others and let them know what will happen soon.” said Jasmine. They decided to tell the students and the teachers in the school, but no one wanted to believe them. Perhaps the truth was too hard to accept. Both of them also tried to find the way to help Joe, but it still did not work. It was Saturday. Jasmine and Church was thinking about the solutions. “I have no idea.” said Church upset. “Hey, look at the TV news!” said Jasmine, with her mouth opened. “Today we found three strange people in New Taipei City. All of them thought they were not humans but robots. The reason is still unsure--” the reporter said. “Oh—I don’t think we can do anything to stop this.” said Church. “Yes. I feel tired and want to give up.” said Jasmine sadly. Day by day, there were more and more people turned into robots. People who hadn’t turned was very worried and scared. They even didn’t understand the reason they live. They could not see the hope in the world. They were all afraid that the next would be themselves. Some of them decided to suicide. The situation expanded wider and wider. The towns, the cities in Taiwan, and even other countries showed up the same problem. But the reason why people turned into the robots is still a riddle for everyone in the world.
