Summary:

The story beings in a rainy day, a couple quarreled in the car, the driver who’s the main character and job is a guidebook writer, named Macon, his wife Sarah since their son Ethan died she felt Macon was a cold and an unfeeling person. She can’t bear him anymore, so she wanted to divorce him. After that Macon spent a lot of time adapting the life without Sarah, but he still felt only, then he decided to move back his old house where his unmarried young sister Rose and tow divorced brothers, Charles and Porter lived. Although Macon felt sad, he still need to work, however he worried about his dog Edward, because it had bitten people many time, and no animal hospital can shelter it. Fortunately, when Macon went to Meow- Bow animal hospital, he met Muriel, who’s a dog trainer and also divorce, she said she can take of Edward and train it. From then on Macon went to Muriel’s house mover and mover often and in the end even lived with her and her son, Macon taught her son Alexander many thing just like really father, and he also had a new, grate life during this time, however Macon’s family didn’t happy about that. One days Macon’s boss Julian went to see Macon to discuss his new guidebook and at the same time he looked Rose and fell in love with her. Their relationship developed quickly, and soon they married, in their wedding Macon saw his ex-wife, Sarah accidentally, after that Sarah took a phone call to Macon and told she want to live with him again, then Macon agree. But when Muriel knew that she was very sad because she love Macon, and even want to married him. Although Muriel was heart-broken, she still didn’t give up. The fate time was in the Paris where Macon went to work, and he was sick. Sarah went to take care of him and Muriel was in there, too. In the end Macon chose Muriel and lived with her.  

Reflection:

I think Macon is an irresolute man and not good at expressing. The first, if he can talk to her wife, Sarah, what his really feeling about their son died, instead of using slipshod and just like careless attitude to face the problem. Second, because his hesitate, he hurt Muriel’s heart and Sarah, too. Besides I also think Sarah is not a good woman, because she just want to Macon know her and show more consideration for her son died, but she never really comprehend Macon anymore, what’s more when she felt regretful she even want to live with him again! On the other hand before I finish the book only one think in my mind that I just want to tell Macon “throw them away and to live the new life by yourself, you don’t need to get married with any woman again just like your brother.” Because the relationship between the two women is too tired to manage, if I am Macon I will do that. In the end I thing Macon choose Muriel that is a great choice although sometime she is irritability and emotional, I still consider she is better than Sarah, nice job Macon.
