The Accidental Tourist.

Summary:

Macon Leary, a person who writes the guidebook for people, but he hate travel, infact. In the beginning, Macon went out with his wife, Sarah, but they quarrel in the car when the weather was getting bad and start raining. In the quarrel, they refer their son, Ethan, who was died by a murder. Because of this and Macon didn’t seem to be care about it, Sarah decided to divorce with Macon. After divorce, Macon had a work that needs to go to England for a short time, so he needed to find a place in which have people can take care of his dog, Edward. First, he sent Edward to the Veterinary Hospital just like before, but the hospital didn't want to accept it this time, because they say it had bit people last time. So Macon found another animal hospital called Meow-Bow. Its attendant, Muriel, who agreed to take care Edward for a few days, so they promised to meet each other again when Macon come back to pick it up. Because of this chance, Macon and Muriel knew each other, and gradually understood they have similar backgrounds. After Macon went back home, Edward started to bite any people, including Macon. Everyone told him to throw the dog away, but Macon insisted to send Edward to train. Trainer happens to be Muriel, after that, Macon moved to live with Muriel and his son Alexander. Not for a long time, Macon and Alexander became good friends. Muriel thank that living with Macon is right and she wants marry with him, but Macon refused her. After attended Julian and Rose’s wedding, Macon went to Canada. While he was in there, he received a call from Sarah, she said that she wants to move back to their old house, Macon agreed, so they lived together again.  Later, Macon went to Paris for job but he did not know that Muriel was following him. On one day morning, Macon got sick, so Sarah came and took care of him. Macon was so happy that Sarah came for him, and he even felt he could forget Muriel. But in the end, Macon still chooses Muriel to live together.

Reflection:

         I think this novel is really very boring compared with before. The story only about one man and two women, but I still can’t understand what Macon wants. He has been divorced with Sarah, then met another woman, Muriel, who was very kind to him. But why he didn’t marry with Muriel? He and Michael's relationship was also very good, why he didn’t accept them in the start? Why he wants to live with Sarah again, but chooses Muriel at the end? Why he wants to broke Muriel’s heart before lives with her? And I also can’t understand why this story named for The Accidental Tourist. To sum up, I can’t understand what this book wants to tell us. But we still can wonder that if we are Macon, what will we do, and how will we choose. For me, I will choose Muriel in the beginning, and have a happy new life at the first time.
