Summary:
Macon Leary,a cold man with not much emotion.Sarah Leary,his wife,was angry about it.She divorced with him after a quarrel.She thought Macon didn't care about their only son,Ethan,who was dead of a murder.At first, Macon felt annoyed about it, and often missed her.After his divorce,his relatives, Rose, Charles and Porter came to his house helping his daily routines.But they were all cold men and women,too.Macon’s dog, Edward.It is ferocious and sometimes bite people for no reasons.He was confused about it.He went to visit a vet,Muriel Pritchett,to translate his dog.But he fell in love with her,and knew that she had been divorced once too and had a son called Alexander Pritchett.He felt happy for living with them,and even promised that he would bring her to France if he is going to white the series of that.But Macon’s family didn’t like her.Then Macon’s older sister, Rose, got married with Macon’s boss, Julian Edge. In their wedding ceremony,Sarah said that she wanted to go back.Macon said OK and cut with Muriel.But he still loved Muriel.Finally,he chose Muriel,who gave her love when he was in the low.
Reflection:
I think Macon is a stupid man.He is not sweet to his lover and wife.Though his marriage was in danger, he didn’t show a good willing to get her wife back,he just waited.I can't know what he was thinking.His family members were very weird,too.They were as same as Macon,cold to everything and just follow the rules.Expect his sister, Rose.I thought Sarah was a very good person.Who could forgive a man had another girl outside and let him to find her in the end?If I were her,I wouldn’t forgive him and never came back to him.Macon didn't cherish his wife,either.He hurt two people who loved him so much.The end is bad,too.How could the author can write such a bad ending.I can't understand what he thought about at all.The author can't fulfill my expectation.To sum up,I don't think it is a good book.
